Everton v Fulham Preview

Everton manager David Moyes

“I can understand them [the fans] being frustrated because of how we’re playing.

“But the only negativity there is at the moment is because of how the team plays. We’ve not played well enough. It’s nothing to do with the board of directors, it’s nothing to do with the chairman, it’s to do with me and the team – we’ve got to play better on the pitch.

“The team plays better, it lifts all the mood. We need to perform better, we need to win more often, and if we do that it changes everything.

“Winning football games is always the answer, so I’ll take responsibility for that.”

“Sylvain and Jagielka are both progressing well but won’t be available for this game.

“So far Shane has done really well in the games and it is terrific for the boy. He has got something and he has a chance. He will certainly make a really good career in the game and we hope it is at Everton.

“The level is going to step up shortly and the more you play, the more people expect from you. In your first couple of games as a youngster people do not expect too much.

“When you stay in the team then the supporters’ and the manager’s eye gets drawn to you. We want him to keep doing things simple and not over-complicate things, and if he keeps playing as well as he has done in the last two games then we will all be happy.

“The decision for me is that I will have Tony Hibbert fit and available, so do I put him in because of his experience, albeit not being a centre half? So we have got that in our mind as well because the games now are really important games.

“We have got to win in the cup to get through and we have games coming up that are against really top teams. We have to decide if Shane is the right one for the job.”

Fulham manager Martin Jol

“It was a difficult draw, but if you want to do something in the competition you have to go to play difficult games at difficult places.”

“And being out of the Europa League and Carling Cup, it would be fantastic to progress to the next round.

“I feel that even for the big clubs that play in all the tournaments, the FA Cup is a beautiful competition to win, so regardless of your league position, the FA Cup is a great opportunity to do something.”

“Although Everton are missing quite afew players, they have achieved some decent results in different ways. They’ve changed their system as well.”

“Of course, if you play at Everton it’s always a difficult game because they play to win. They have a system with offensive midfield players, and they play with a lot of crosses – very English ingredients – but we are well prepared.

“In the League maybe we haven’t had the best results at Goodison Park, but hopefully we will change that tomorrow.”

Watford v Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond

“I was talking to him (Harry Redknapp) yesterday, he was keen to know our thoughts on Watford and how we are looking.

“We made preparations to come to the game and he was genuinely looking forward to it.”

“He has been no different to how he has always been,” he said.

“He appears, when I speak to him – and I would know – to be every bit as focused as he has been.

“We haven’t felt we had to have a conversation with the players.

“Everyone is aware of the ongoing situation and everybody gets on with it.

“Harry wasn’t here for a few days a few weeks back and really we are just carrying on without him.

“To a large degree the training is exactly the same, it’s just that Harry is not there overseeing it all.

“The players all understand that, we all understand that and get on with it in the same way as if he was here.”

“Champions League is our number one goal, but the FA Cup is hugely important to us.

“As a youngster when you played, you didn’t dream about finishing in the top four so you could play in the Champions League, you all dreamed about playing at Wembley and lifting the cup.

“The players crave a cup final. They crave playing in the big games, the one-off games.”

Watford manager Sean Dyche

“The top clubs look for the absolute top level of player, they put massive resources into that, the infrastructure, the support systems – and that’s where the gap has got bigger from having a run with Chesterfield and playing Middlesbrough, to what it is now with Watford. We consider ourselves a reasonably sized club, a Championship club looking to develop, looking to build, but that financial gap has got so much bigger and harder to close.”

“We’ve had a couple of awkward results in the league, after a very good run – in the grand scheme of our season it’s not something we’re overly concerned about, though we have to correct it.

“In that respect, playing Tottenham is an opportunity. It’s awkward planning to play a team which can change in so many ways, they could play so many different formations with the players they have. That’s why we have to concentrate on what we do, and look for players to play slightly above themselves – though to be honest you’re looking for that every week.”

“Tottenham get it right quite often at the moment, but we’re looking for them to not get it quite right on the night, and for us to play super well, and maybe have a bit of the rub of the green. Who knows? It’s the FA Cup, and that’s where dreams are made.”
